First approved solution by CARB
Clean Truck Check software from RA enables fast, convenient data transmission to CARB
Troy (MI) Silver Snap-Tool, by RA Automotive Software Solutions, is the first CARB approved solution for the CA Clean Truck Check (CTC) program meeting all requirements for On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) of heavy-duty vehicles. Using Silver Snap-Tool more than 50,000 tests have already been successfully processed since January 2023. CTC ensures that heavy-duty vehicle emission control systems function properly and remain low-emission throughout their operating life.
In a matter of minutes, the Silver Snap-Tool software reads out all relevant OBD data for vehicle testing, emissions monitoring, and identification of emissions related fault codes. Required data can be transmitted to CARB with just one click.

Approved Software and Hardware
The Silver Snap-Tool software runs on a Windows-based laptop and is connected to the vehicle using approved vehicle communication interface (VCI) devices. The software and many VCI devices can be ordered directly from RA Automotive Software Solutions making it an easy single source purchase. Silver Snap-Tool supports all necessary OBD protocols and ports, such as SAE J1939 and SAE J1979. The application is very easy to use, focusing only on the necessary settings to maximize user experience and robustness.
To ensure maximum security, the recorded data is packaged and fully encrypted. It can be transferred to CARB in a matter of minutes without data loss. Each submitted snapshot has a unique ID that can be used to verify the integrity of the data at a later point. After analyzing the data, CARB sends a “pass” or “fail” result to the submitter.
The propiertary dashboard from RA Automotive Software Solutions informs vehicle owners and fleet managers of the tests carried out and their results. Filter and search functions enable convenient use. For reporting purposes, the dashboard further supports the export of data in Excel format.

About Clean Truck Check
Clean Truck Check (CTC) is part of California’s multi-pronged effort to reduce air pollution in the coming years. The CTC program applies to all diesel and alternative fuel vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 14,000 pounds and an engine model year 2013 and newer (diesel) or 2018 and newer (alternative fuels). This includes vehicles registered in other states that are operated on California roads.
Other States are also developing sustainability rules and vehicle compliance tests for a cleaner environment.
